A great turn-out today, with 9 keen volunteers. Thankfully, the weather was cooler than recently, although we could desperately do with some rain. The strong westerly was barely noticeable inside the wood. One of the jobs was inspection of the 4 “trial planting areas”, where over the period 2019 to 2022 we planted about 40 canopy trees (Oak and Small-leaved Lime). The idea was to check whether stakes and ties were in place, loosen ties where necessary, remove stakes and ties where no longer required, and clear any encroaching vegetation. The first two areas (planted in early 2019 and early 2020) were doing well, the two later areas slightly less so. Other volunteers used scythes and loppers to clear the eastern path. Some logs were removed from an inappropriate place, and some litter was collected from two party areas, including 3 chairs in various states of disrepair. Thanks to everyone.
