Fantastic weather for the seven participants today. The main task was continuing the removal of guards and canes from whips planted along the eastern boundary. Although whips south of the Multi-User Games Area had only been there for 5 years, they had grown considerably and the guards and canes were no longer needed. This was a tough job, because of the amount of thorny vegetation we had to work through (some from the whips themselves, some from existing woodland edge shrubs spreading outwards). However, we got much of it done, thanks to the dedicated work of our volunteers. In addition, Tim and I carried out an inspection of nest boxes as part of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Nest Record Scheme (NRS), under licence from Natural England. The majority of boxes are in use, and if the weather continues to be reasonable we should once again see a good outcome.
