Another successful work party with no fewer than 4 new volunteers. We thinned some invasive species, mainly Norway maple but also some sycamore, growing in the middle of the wood between the western and central paths. Larger specimens that were manageable using hand tools were felled in the usual way and stump treated, although some stumps are marked for future cutting back and treating as we ran out of pellets. Smaller specimens were pulled out of the ground by hand or with tree poppers, kindly loaned to us by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. The longer stems arising from this were stored for future path edging work, and the brash was mostly used to reinforce the western boundary hedge. We packed up at about 12.30 when the rain started.
Thanks to all participants.
