We enjoyed lovely sunny weather for the work party today, although numbers were down because of the rugby world cup semi-final and school half term. We already had some material available from removal of Norway maple at the last work party, so we used this, along with other suitable material lying around, to repair and extend slightly the path edging through the north-eastern part of the wood. This mostly involved replacing missing stakes. About 250m of path through this section now has edging, installed during the last year or so, and this is certainly helping to keep visitors from straying off the path. Several other jobs were also accomplished: Amy and her children helped Chrissie trial run the new nature trail Chrissie has developed for the website; Chrissie and Rod did some work along the north-eastern boundary fence ready for planting next time, cutting back nettles, brambles and overhangs from Wild Privet and Dog Rose planted several years ago; 4 bags of litter were collected; Ian dug some channels across the eastern path to help with drainage; David delivered some more stones to muddy areas; and Richard marked some young trees for felling or coppicing, so that we can find them after the leaves have dropped.
