Coolish conditions made it very pleasant for the 10 hard-working volunteers today. We were pleased to welcome two new Duke of Edinburgh award candidates, Charlotte and Jack, and their fathers.
We worked at the northern end of the wood, thinning a few youngish trees of various species that were growing too close together, the aim being to let more light through and encourage more understorey. Also a few young Sycamores were felled or “popped”. The material was used to patch up sections of path edging on the main and west paths, where existing edging had rotted or disappeared. Also dead-hedging was strengthened in a couple of places to block gaps in the boundary. David distributed more stones to some of the muddier sections of the main path.
Thanks to all. (And a big thank-you to Paul for the photos.)
