Our annual site visit, where officers of The Friends meet in the wood with representatives of Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, was held on Tuesday 23 August. Priorities for the next 12 months were discussed, as were key points for our next 5-Year Plan (due in 2023).
The issue of providing water in the wood for wildlife during droughts, which had been raised by one of our members, was put to the NWT and RBC. The view of the experts was that this was not necessary. For example badgers will travel several kilometres when foraging, so are likely to know and use several local water sources.
Clear evidence of muntjac deer was found just outside the wood.
