Today’s work party, in lovely weather, attracted 9 volunteers, including newcomers Alice and Duke of Edinburgh candidate Will. This was the first work party since the end of bird nesting, so we were able to get started on the autumn/winter jobs. Today we coppiced a few Wych Elms near the north-east corner and used the timber to replace or re-stake rotten path edging in that area. Bill, with help from Andrew and Julian, failed in an attempt to erect the Green Flag on a tree, as it was not possible to put it high enough. Bill also failed to cut the fallen Ash branch from the path on the SE corner, which will need further work. During the drinks break Julian pointed out some Hornets flying around some trees in the area. Several people had to leave early, so we packed up shortly after noon having accomplished a reasonable amount. Thanks to all.
