This was a relatively small work party by recent standards, but there is less to do at this time of the year. 7 of us, including newcomer Ben, enjoyed decent conditions while we carried out a number of tasks. The wooden notice board by the “Wheatcroft” gate and the wooden ladder boards by the “Wheatcroft” and “Peveril” gates were cleaned and treated with linseed oil. Also the new metal notice board by the southern entrance was rather wobbly, so we secured it with “Postcrete”. A tree had fallen close to the most recent “trial planting area”, and branches of ivy from the tree were encroaching on several of the canopy trees we planted in winter 2021/2022. We cleared the offending ivy which, unfortunately, had broken one of the young trees. Sadly very few of the young trees in that area are doing well, not helped by prolonged drought only months after planting. As usual, some litter was collected, and we also went round most of the paths trimming off any overhanging branches at or below head height.
Thanks to all.
