We had 8 attendees today including Gemma, Paul and Julian attending for the first time. Many thanks to them and our regulars for a productive work party led by Bill. We clocked up 23 hours 40 minutes.
Chrissie brought a replacement leaflet holder and spoke to over 20 dog walkers, including a couple of people from the new estate. NeighbourWood Watch was promoted but also telling them about the work parties and trying to interest them. Many of the people thanked us for what we are doing.
Unfortunately, the new leaflet holder does not fit the kissing board upright where the old holder has been damaged, but David will put it on backing and install it another time. David also removed the perspex from the broken notice board at the Peveril entrance, but this will need some jagged remains smoothing off (since done).
We removed the Easter egg hunt posters and took the den junk from the holly bush, removed by Julian, to the Peveril Drive bin.
Following a report from a member of the public, who we actually spoke to in the Wood, that a BMX track had been run from Sharp’s Hill to the kissing gate entrance this was flattened and we put substantial fallen trees across to deter further misuse of the path. Fallen branches were removed from the top of the hill.
Fence panels were re-nailed at a couple of places by Stephen where the public have been entering the Wood from the new development and some dead hedging put down to deter future access.
Gemma and Paul removed canes and guards from dead whips along the east side and these were taken to the shed.
We were not able to remove branches from fallen trees to use as future path edging. Nor were we able to do a count of surviving trees at the trial planting areas.
