A cold, dull morning failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 13 participants today, and we soon warmed up as we got to work. Much of the time was spent tackling excess young Sycamore and Norway Maple between the main and west paths, using our tree popper on the smaller specimens and saws on the larger ones. This produced a certain amount of material for path edging, which we deployed to the south of the bridge, extending where we left off previously. In addition, a couple of volunteers collected canes and guards from whips planted along the northern boundary about 5 years ago, and Richard identified and marked trees elsewhere for dealing with later in the winter.
Chrissie spoke to members of the public , promoting the Friends and telling them about NeighbourWood Watch and our fund-raising campaign.
