For today’s work party we had 11 participants and bright but breezy weather. Heavy rain for a brief period earlier in the morning had done little to alter the firm conditions underfoot. The main job was checking whips planted along the western boundary in recent years, ensuring that their canes and guards were in place and they weren’t being smothered by overhanging vegetation. Most are continuing to thrive. In addition, Bill and Julian managed to remove a damaged bolt from the gate at the Wheatcroft entrance, and Tim and John carried out a further inspection of active nest boxes under the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Nest Record Scheme. A nesting report will be issued at the end of the season. Finally, John and Tim discovered the remains of a small fire on the main path and removed some litter the perpetrators had left behind.
Thanks to all!
