For todays’ Work Party, which was led by Richard, we enjoyed some sunshine and views of lovely spring flowers; we split into two sub-groups on entering the wood, one sub-group (1) concentrating on path edging, and the other (2) inspecting recently planted whips on the eastern and southern borders, retrieving guards/canes from dead/sufficiently grown whips.
Sub-group 2 retrieved a large number of guards and canes from the whips planted several seasons ago in the NE corner of the wood. Most of the whips further south were deemed to be still in need of support/protection. On completing this task, sub-group 2 joined in with the path edging.
The path edging at the NW corner of Zone 2 was completed up to the intersection of Footpaths 32 (known as the east path) and 30 (known as the main or central path), and a few sections were also laid along Footpath 30 in this location, in between Zones1 and 2. In addition, a few sections of rotted edging and missing or rotted stakes were replaced further east along Footpath 32. The timber for this exercise was mostly sourced from Zone 3, east of Footpath 31 (known as the west path), from felling which had been done several seasons ago, but which was still suitable for the task.
Thanks to everyone who took part.
