There were 7 participants this morning in glorious weather, yet not too hot under the canopy. We proudly used our two new scythes and two new shears, tackling encroaching vegetation on some of the paths. The northern end of the west path was particularly in need of a trim, and bits of the western path further south and the southern end of the central path also required some attention. However, the central path was a lot better than in recent years as much had been cut back during the path improvement work in the winter. A couple of barrows of stones were distributed to fill in remaining muddy sections on the west and east paths. Finally, we checked out the 4 trial planting areas of canopy trees (oak and lime), counting the surviving trees, ensuring that ties were adjusted correctly, and trimming back a little of the encroaching vegetation, although most of the trees are now well above the understorey. The first trial planting area is ready to have its stakes and ties removed, but that will be best left till autumn when some of the nettles etc. have died down and access will be easier. Thanks to everyone.
