Work Party, 23/7/23

0

Following lots of rain during the previous couple of days, the morning of the work party was mercifully dry, apart from a couple of brief sprinkles, and a comfortable temperature. There were 8 of us today, and the main focus was checking whips planted along the western boundary during the last 2 to 3 years. The vast majority have survived, and those towards the northern end, which had been planted first, were doing very well.

We did identify a few gaps where supplementary planting might be appropriate. We removed a modicum of encroaching vegetation around some of the whips, refitted guards in a few cases, and removed guards and canes where whips had died. Whips planted down the eastern boundary, and also along the southern-most stretch of the western boundary, still need to be checked, so we may call an extra work party during the coming weeks to achieve this.

In addition, David deposited more stones in sections of the paths that had become muddy again in recent days, and Bill and Richard applied linseed oil to the ladder board by the southern entrance before joining the rest of us checking the whips. Thanks to all.

John
