For today’s work party we had 11 participants, including new volunteer Harry and young Felix accompanying Andrew. Thankfully the recent very hot weather had given way to cooler and breezy weather (even a few spots of rain at the end), but nevertheless it was a little muggy inside the wood. We focused on keeping the paths clear of encroaching vegetation, using scythes to push back nettles and other low-level plants, and loppers and occasionally saws to deal with overhanging branches. In particular there were sections of the western and central paths that were becoming quite narrow, and scything helped to regain some width. As usual a certain amount of litter was collected. As we were leaving, Julian pointed out some beautiful Peacock caterpillars. Thanks to all, and particularly young Felix for showing us older folks how to push a barrow up the hill!
