We had an excellent turn-out today for more tree planting along the eastern boundary, just inside the fence erected by the developers. The weather was fine, and although windy, we were sheltered. The ground was, of course, very muddy. There were about 135 whips of various woodland edge species left over from the previous work party, and we planted these along with a few hazel and oak whips grown from seed from the wood. The existing vegetation had not been brush cut, but there was only a little clearing needed to make room for planting. In addition, we cleared bramble that was preventing access to two of the nest boxes, dismantled and removed a tent near the eastern path, distributed more stones to muddy sections of the main path, and Chrissie handed out a number of our Neighbourwood Watch cards to members of the public.
