The good news is that the usual birds are still here usually in good numbers! Please do download and read John Elwell’s full report but, in very brief summary:
The most numerous small birds were Wren, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Robin and Blackbird. There were also small numbers of Stock Dove, Song Thrush and Dunnock. In lower numbers inside the wood were Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Jay, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Chaffinch and Greenfinch.
Outside the wood, Common Whitethroat, House Sparrow and Linnet were found in scrub /
hedgerow. A Skylark was singing in the fields to the west and north of the wood. There were single sightings of Long-tailed Tit and Kestrel.
Diversity of species was lower this year unfortunately.
