Rushcliffe Borough Council Statement re memorials

The Friends have occasionally be asked whether memorials to loved ones, e.g. trees, benches, plaques etc, can be placed in Sharphill Wood. We now have a statement from the Council:

“In general Rushcliffe Borough Council does not accept or provide memorials in any form on our sites due to the issue of maintenance and appropriateness for the site.

We have no objection to donations being made to support the work of the Friends of Sharphill Wood, however no physical or identifiable memorial should be provided within the wood.

The council does provide a memorialisation service at Rushcliffe Oaks Crematorium, please see https://www.rushcliffeoaks.co.uk/memorialisations/memorialisation-options/

The Woodland Trust does have a scheme where dedications can be arranged. See their web site.
