Three members carried out work recommended at the annual site visit last August. This is a task using power tools which is better to undertake outside the regular monthly work parties.
This is John’s report:
We cut a couple of ‘scallops’ immediately below trial planting area 1, whilst also trimming it back a foot or so alongside that narrow stretch of path. In addition, we improved access to nest boxes 35 to 37 by cutting away the bramble trip hazards.
We used both our brush-cutter (with blade head) and my hedge trimmer. The hedge trimmer was perhaps better suited to removal of the higher bramble, but the brush-cutter was useful for reducing some of the short stems left near ground level. We had a discussion a year or so ago about the relative merits of different tools, and today’s session gave us some practical experience.
