Dawn chorus walk, 30/4/23

0

Although not strictly a dawn chorus walk (we didn’t start till 06.30!), 12 of us visited the wood yesterday morning to listen to the birds and see what we could spot. The canopy is only just starting to come into leaf, so we were indeed able to see quite a few birds, including Great Spotted Woodpecker (a pair), Treecreeper (in two places), Nuthatch, Jay, Linnet (below the southern entrance), Song Thrush, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Stock Dove, with Skylark singing over the field on the way up. Green Woodpecker was heard laughing at us on several occasions but didn’t show. We also stopped to view the Bluebells (noting the differences between English and Spanish/hybrid), as well as admiring the Early Purple Orchids in their usual place (but spreading slightly).
