Visitors to the wood over the last couple of weeks will have noticed new excavations between the new school and the wood. These have involved the removal of topsoil and the scrubbing up of a sizeable section of the buffer zone plantings – which were intended to provide an area of bushes and trees between the new housing and the wood.
We quickly responded to this development by alerting the council and this resulted in an on-site meeting between Rushcliffe Planning Dept and the developer, Vistry. According to Vistry this work was necessary in order to construct the required Muti-Use Games Area. Apparently the buffer zone plantings will be restored in due course.
We have questioned the need for digging so close to the wood and have pointed out that the destroyed plants were several years old and must be replaced by fairly mature trees and shrubs, not the small whips which were originally planted.
