Birds in the wood 10/4/25

0

Today John carried out his second spring bird survey visit, with splendid assistance from Janet Crowe. Nothing of particular interest came up during the survey, although it was good to hear Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming (missing on the previous visit), and there are now several Blackcaps singing (the previous visit was too early for them). As before, plenty of Wren, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chiffchaff and Stock Dove, with fewer numbers of a handful of other species, including Jay seen by Janet. At least 4 Linnet by the kissing gate. Notable by their apparent absence so far this season are Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Song Thrush and Mistle Thrush. Also no Skylark today, and no raptors so far.
